Profiling & Bubbles Simulator
Experience how recommendation algorithms profile you and create filter bubbles. An educational tool where all processing happens in your browser — no data leaves your device.
Research Question
How do algorithms shape what you see online?
Data Source
Simulated content corpus (no real user data)
Limitations
Educational simulation, not a production recommendation engine. Behavioral archetypes are session-only observations, not personality diagnoses.
Overview
The Profiling & Bubbles Simulator is an interactive educational experience that demonstrates how recommendation algorithms work from the inside. Users browse a simulated content feed while the system silently captures engagement signals — the same kind of data that real platforms collect. Then, the system reveals what it captured, how it built a profile, and what kind of "bubble" it created.
How It Works
The experience unfolds in four acts:
- Immersion: Browse a content feed naturally. The system captures 8 engagement signals silently.
- Revelation: See what the system captured — every signal, your emerging profile, and your diversity metrics.
- Understanding: Learn how the recommendation engine works through animated diagrams and see your behavioral archetype.
- Agency: Choose what to do with your data — delete it, download it, or learn about managing your data on real platforms.
